MAN’S BEST FRIEND CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS 2006
On Sunday 10th
December 2006, our annual Christmas party was held at Whisby Garden Centre. Dogs
and owners attending both agility and
obedience classes join together for a morning of fun and games. Even though it
was cloudy, cold and threatening rain, it was not enough to dampen our spirits.

The first event was the judging of the fancy dress. Having judged
myself last year, I knew what a difficult job Graham had. I am always amazed at
what elaborate costumes some dogs will wear without objecting too much! The
results of the fancy dress were in first place was Sue with Billy & Tammy,
in second place was Michael & Judith with Holly & Bailey, and in third place was
Annabel with Bandit.

Next was my favourite game - musical mats. 27 dogs took part and
as usual, there was a fair amount of pushing and gouging to try to reach the
mats first! A number of people were aided and abetted by Chaz who threw ‘extra’
mats out occasionally. Eventually the winner was Katie with Lucy (Black
Labrador)
in second place was Samantha with Jimmy (JRT) and in third place was Christine
with Snowie (Border Collie)!

The tangerine game came next. This contained an added twist this year. Not only did we have to keep the tangerine on the spoon, but also get dog and owner through three hoops! A variety of cheating methods were employed. Some good secretive thumb action to hold the tangerine on the spoon (worth remembering for next year!) Winners were Team ‘Holme’ consisting of Phil & Meg, Cath & Flash, John & Brandy, Chris & Snowie and Penny & Tally.

Finally, an agility course that everyone could have a go at. 30 dogs took part
in this game in teams. This included jumps, the tyre, weave poles and then
finishing through the ‘gate.’ The winning team were Team ‘Grace’ which included
Sue & Badger, Julie & Molly, Penny & Jack, Pat & Nessie, Jade & Holly, Heather &
Toby, Katie & Lucy, Chris & Snowie, Katie & Dylan, Patricia & Tinkerbell, Kelly
& Bailey, Steve & Roxy, Judith & Bailey, Kenny & Kim and last but not least Sue
& Billy.
Having exerted ourselves so much, we were ready for some food and as usual,
there was a big variety and lots of it, including the famous Graham Gallimore
mulled wine and Teresa’s delicious mince pies! Whilst we were enjoying our food,
the raffle was drawn. This raised a marvellous £110.50 for MBF funds.
